Journeys. Stories. Dead Ends.

If you are looking for a travel blog, you came to the wrong place. Sort of. We like to share our travel experiences without giving a prescription. The internet is full of how-to’s and all the details needed to get from one place to the next. Here, we want to share the story behind the travel. All of the mishaps and wrong turns that turn a trip into a journey–the memories and connections that stick with you long after the vacation has ended. The tales that fill up all those postcards home.

The oft-overlooked, seldom sent postcard perfectly symbolizes our outlook on travel. It represents an antiquated medium in a world rushing towards detachment. A physical form in an increasingly digital world. Sending a postcard to friend or family is a simple form of intimacy–personal interaction–that is sorely lacking in our everyday lives.

Our fascination with postcards is long and labyrinthine, as you will likely find much of this website. Postcard Pangaea is a place to explore and become lost, not necessarily a quick layover to find the answer to a specific travel question. Our hope has always been to bring people together with our postcards, to let friends know we are thinking of them, despite an increasingly globalized world where one never seems to be able to be in the same place with the same friends for more than a few years. Hence, our name, Postcard Pangaea. We aim to shrink the world a bit by providing a community where friends can share their travel mishaps and, hopefully, open up a bit by exploring the slowly fading creative realm of storytelling and writing. However, our goals fail if the community does not share, so please contact us to become a contributor!

Of course, we venture into the mundane when absolutely necessary. Under Travel Tidbits you can find brief Trip Summaries that focus on useful tips for some of the more out of the way places, which we found information hard to come by, and short Photo Journeys highlighting beautiful locales around the world. For the most part, though, we hope to inspire others to venture to new places by sharing unique experiences focusing on interactions–whether this is through short stories in our Postcard Memories section or exploring new foods in the Dumpling Corner. We encourage you to check out the links below to learn more about who we are and how we prefer to travel. Otherwise, feel free to jump to our Destinations page to find out more regarding a specific country. However you managed to get here, we hope you find some entertainment along with a little inspiration to get out to new and remote places and interact with the people and world around you.
